I was basing my comment on the design overall -- it's especially bas as a starter line. I still stand by that if the final form didn't exist, the middle stage would be fine as a final stage. Or hell, if the first stage didn't exist the line would be fine with just the last two stages.

Fighting-type Pokemon are mostly humanoid and this is because they are based on strongmen which *the most important fact* are related to some martial art or kind of fighter (but not like soldiers). Fighting quadrupedal are only Swords of Justice because the fighting type is also heroic and just.

Being a guardian doesn't necessitate the fighting type. By that logic Zygarde should be fighting type. But it isn't because it's origin of being a serpent that lives in the earth override that detail completely justifying it's Dragon/Ground typing.

If anything this thing should keep it's Water/Flying typing. It wouldn't be as bad.

I’m working from memory here, but I think the designer said it’s based on some niche lore of sphinx’s that were guardians of knowledge and artifacts, like protectors of the past. Why wouldn’t the artist have a design sheet if one existed? If the designer could draw it himself he wouldn’t need to commission an artist to draw it.
