Back when I was about 8 years old, I got a copy of Pokémon Ruby. I'd been a fan of the show for years, but this was the first time I got a game. About halfway through I ran into a shiny Sandshrew on Route 113, and I had never heard of shinies before. I caught it because I thought it being green was cool.
That was back when shinies meant something. Nowadays everyone hacks them in, and some people even sell hacked mons. For shame.
