I had a six mon team and mine were all around level 45-47 by the time I hit Red. I cleared out every trainer I could, even the out-of-the-way ones in the caves. Sorry for not grinding out the ass in a children’s video game, I guess.

Not sure, but they were the only ones which were really challenging, even with Eviolite equipped.

To be fair with this and OP though, there wasn't exactly a huge amount of viable moves in Gen 1, and, as others have said, they just went with whatever they learned leveling up, which was really small for stone evolutions. Still retarded though.
