Both have their pros and cons
Horde battles are better for EV training while SOS battles gets you perfect IVs, higher chance of hidden abilities and higher chance of shinies

technically this should outweigh what hordes have to offer easily, but since they're so annyoing to deal with, I'd rather have hordes back than SOS chains

I like sos battles as a concept. Making wild encounters potentially more difficult.

I wish they could incorporate dexnav features into sos, like possibility of egg moves and higher levels.

I prefer hordes because it's easier to catch shit compared to SOS battles. In the latter, they'll keep calling in reinforcements if you don't have anything that can paralyze them.

I prefer SOS battles, because:

1. Perfect IVs are garanteed with higher chains.
2. Hidden abilities are easier to get.
3. Shinies appear more frequently.
4. The concept of wild pokémon helping each other in a double battle is something already well established in previous pokémon games and it is more comfy than hordes.
5. More stable framerate than horde battles.

One of the Ultra Changes was reducing the amount of times a Pokemon can call for reinforcements to one unless you scare or intimidate it

Fully EV train a pokemon in 10 minutes vs 10 hours? Like, come on now. There's a reason I haven't bothered breeding up super good 'mon in Gen 7 and its all due to SOS.

Shit, I've gone back to Gen 6 specifically just to breed and EV train pokemon to then be pushed over to Gen 7.

pokemon that appear later in the chain give more EVs.
to max out speed I give 10 carbos and with the right held item, it takes 9 or so golbat on top of that maxing out EVs in gen 7 takes AT MOST a little under 30 minutes

remember when ORAS pre-release info hyped the SHIT out of the idea of "HORDE TRAINERS OMG!!! FIGHT FIVE TRAINERS AT ONCE!" and then it ended up being literally just a horde battle where you fight five underleveled pokemon of the same species?

imagine if they had actually had the balls to make you fight five trainers simultaneously with like, 2-3 pokemon each, or even just at least five single pokemon that were on level and remotely challenging.

They improved SOS a bit in USUM, at least. Random wild battles will only summon one Pokemon unless you use the Adrenaline Orb, and the benefits and shiny odds don't roll back after 255 KOs. Also, in the post game, you can now find the EV training items around Poni Island, and there's at least one of each EV you can train for on the first island. Even without Pokerus, it should only take about 15 calls to max out an EV.

A Pokemon with any status condition (burn, poison, sleep, paralysis, frozen) will not call for help. If you're chaining for a shiny, ALWAYS have a Pokemon that can use Thunder Wave when you find your target (or, if it's Electric or has an ability that prevents Paralysis, then something with Hypnosis instead).

Since when does EV training in gen 7 take ten hours? It only takes like 10-15 minutes to max out a stat through SOS.
Pelago does take longer, but if you're like me and spend most of your day working and therefore can't take time out of the day to train, then it's still useful.

Hordes were so simple for EV training, just fly to a route, use sweet scent 5 times and it was done.
SOS aren't terrible but they definitely feel slower.

But the real thing I miss is the Blissey Secret bases, 1 fight and you would go from lv.1 to 50 it was amazing
