Anyone else replaying one of the older games?
I'm going through Crystal again now.
It feels super fresh to be able to play PKMN again without having to worry about silly shit like natures or IVs.

I was surprised how enjoyable using a Wobbufett was back when whether a move was special or not was decided by type, so everything was easy to predict

VGCfag here, I really wish I could go back.

I'm so jealous of the people who look back at Pokemon and see only the innocence of youth and nostalgia, not the petty drama and stats and numbers Pokemon has come to mean to me.

Playing through ORAS now casually (which I actually never got to do because I had to rush the games when they released to play in VGC events) but it's still not quite the same...

I wish I could play newer Pokemon games the same way I play Crystal but the sole fact natures, IVs and Abilities are there means I have to pay attention to them and use them.

Sometimes simple is just better, Pokemon at its core like it was originally conceived.
I loved Moon and all that but good lord going back to Crystal and just catch shit and just keep it feels nice.

Only thing you have to worry about stat wise is gender in gen 2 which is nice. Want a higher attack? Go male. Don’t care? Nbd. Plus it’s easier to get shinies if you have a shiny ditto, and plenty of content late game. That being said I always found the world to be kinda bland looking, which is why I loved gen 3 so much. The rainy areas and all the water was more comfy. In gen 2 I always feel like I’m just blazing through it because of how many times I’ve made gen 2 my bitch.

But IVs are in crystal.... They've been in since gen 1 in gsc specifically they determine shininess. The logic of it not being there so I don't need to worry about it makes absolutely no sense for IVs as they have always been there

IVs are in Crystal, they're just called DVs. Also to me it's even worse playing the older games because the non-existent physical/special split makes some cool Pokes plain unusable to me. Like Gengar's Shadow Ball being a physical move, or Gyarados' Water STAB moves all being special.

Played Crystal last month to SR Celebi and it was almost unbearable which is funny because I love HGSS. To me it's almost impossible to play pre-split, the distribuition of types doesn't helps gen 2 games too.

I can only play the older games rn because I don't have any console or access to my PC so I'm emulating on my phone.
Finished Red recently (no complete dex and entire team below 50 though) and am doing my second gen 2 playthrough now, first is/was Crystal on my PC so now I'm nuzlocking Gold.

I thought Flying and Bug were special types at first (I actually completely forgot about the move category situation before gen4). Also was disappointed that Feraligatr couldn't learn Cascade (as it's a physical move hehe)
Crystal was my first game actually.

I'm playing Blaze Black 2 Challenge Mode and I swear to fucking god Burgh is impossible.
He has a counter for everything I can throw at him, also grinding is a pain, best spot is the Castella garden with 18-20 audinos, but that only gets me to like 26 realistically, his ace is level 29.
Shit is fucking insane, I've never raged at an in-game fight more than this, it's on a whole new level of fuckery.

>I'll sweep him with a fire Pokem-

>I'll use my Lucario to Work Up and Blaze Kick his te-

>both Leavanny and Scyther have Swords Dance and are faster than anything I have
>his Scyther has a fucking Eviolite and Technician to top it off

>Escavalier has an Occa Berry to weaken a fire attack, his 4x weakness, and can hit back with Drill Run

I have no answers to this fight, may have to retrain an entire team and that'll take 5+ hours.

Got it. Holy shit I'm ecstatic.
The trick was to lead with my Pidgeotto, Whrilwind his Accelgor and pray Escavalier got in (reset if he didn't)
He can only hit Pidgeotto with Iron Head, but I'm faster than he is so I Feather Dance, and Feather Dance again twice, so his attack is -6.
Switched to Lucario, now not even Drill Run can hurt it (unless it crits). Use that time to setup with Work Up 3 times so I'm at +3, then use an X Speed and it's basically sweeping time with Blaze Kick (Strength for Maskerain, which is now a Rock move with like 70 power)
Leavanny survives with 1 HP due to Focus Sash, but she can't ohko Lucario.

That was literally the only way to win with my current party. I hope this blog encourages more people to play this hack, it can be infuriating but I've never felt so happy beating a gym leader before.

I don't have any issue with Platinum's speed, after I get used to it. DP is too slow though.
Also gen 5 is blazing fast, way faster than gen 7, I'm surprised.

I also had a hard time with Burgh.

But that's where the hard gyms end. After that, for the next gyms, you have a lot of choices to make a good team, so all gyms will be rather easy.

In BB2, I swept the last Gym with a Scyther without being hit a single time, maybe I was a bit lucky too.

Playing blue 2.0 with a full colour patch. It’s pretty neat. Also really good to be able to get all 151 in one cartridge without fucking around

I do worry about natures. If I'm going to play with an Abra, I'm not going to take one that has a -Sp.Atk nature, it just feels awful to me.

I don't bother with IVs though. It's made easier by the fact that I can't readily check those.

Yes they were? It's literally the same thing, just represented as 0-15 instead of 0-31. Also we're not talking about the "meta" in the first place, it's about the single player game. If you're autistic about IVs, you should also be autistic about DVs.
