Casually, competitively, or both, who here is a karenfag? I can only use Pokémon i like aesthetically both in game and on smogon.
Also rate other’s taste.
My favorite Pokémon is cloyster. Others include slowbro, espeon, sableye, drifblim, cofagrigus, espurr, and mimikyu just to name one from each gen

I only use Pokemon that are strong and I grow to like them over the course of my journey, because I don't want to use my favourites when I battle. My favourites belong in the cuddle pit, not the arena.

Competitively, I try to find niches for my favorites in real teams composed of the more standard ones. My favorite Pokémon is one of the most despised, and a complete shitmon, but damn you, I'll do what I can to make it work.
In-game, I exclusively try to use Pokémon I've never used before, so sometimes that leaves me with things like Castform, and sometimes with things like Ferrothorn. (used both for the first time in my last Black 2 run)

I don't really believe in competitive Pokemon because first of all it takes no skill whatsoever. It's literally math with no human reaction time and very minimal problem solving. It's also arbitrary considering everyone uses the same pool of Pokemon and then they don't even care about that actual mon. Like why bother?

Don't get me wrong I'd Pokemon was more like say a Moba with the 4 skills and made tackle a dash so it could avoid AOEs and skillshots etc... Then I could understand competitive play being much less arbitrary and fun.

Pokken helps but it's too limited and the idea of a fighting style set in stone is boring.

Empty words. Gamefreak just throws out moves and abilities with no regard for anything whatsoever. There is no balance and there never was balance. The idea on paper is that everything has a use for something. This idea doesn't hold up practically, but it does make for a diverse collectible, which is it's true intention. It's just a virtual gallery, and I think it has no business being a game.
