Which one did you pick when Diamond/Pearl came out? Which one did you pick when you played Platinum?

Piplup for Diamond and I think I chose Piplup again with my initial Platinum run, but I've definitely used Chimchar and Turtwig at least twice each in subsequent replays.

My first starter was Piplup in Diamond. When I replay Diamond later, I tried Turtwig to change difficulty.
In Platinum I pick Chimchar.

I unironically think Gen 4 starters are all good with better design than any Gens starters (Gen 2 had pretty good designs though), except Gen 4's first and middle stages are flawed as hell but final stages made it worthwhile.

Turtwig because turtles cute. Replayed with Piplup and hated it. For platinum and other replays, Chimchar, because he goes fastest and wins the best so I can focus on other teammates instead.

Turtwig. I always thought he was so cool after I saw him in the anime as a kid and even before that I always preferred the grass starters.

Only started to played plat recently and chose chimchar since I wanted a fire type and didn't like the ones available.
I think gen 4 is the only gen in which I like all the starters. Piplup is probably the weakest, but empoleon brings it back around in the end.
