You don't. Status is something that supplements battles and in some games can be the difference between winning or losing but winning a battle just by poisoning and sleeping the opponents isn't efficient.

I mean, if you feel like you have so little time for gaming that you have to speed run everything, then maybe turn-based RPGs with an emphasis on collecting things aren't the best thing to be playing.

I was that kid who always used attacking moves. Never used the powder moves or any status ailment. You never need them, just spam flamethrower and thunderbolt to win. Why do I need growl? I asked myself. I can just win using attacking moves. Never looked back.

4 attacking moves on 6 mon all of various types all covering each others weakness and assuring I have at least two SE answers to any type, at least one against any reasonably common type combo I could come across. Rarely, rarely, a buffing move. Also rarely 5pp moves, often paired with a move of the same type but more pp, one for fodder one for threats.

Team also often contains things available within the first few routes and only swaps out if a better fit comes along.

Also, I try to avoid using the same pokemon repeatedly if I can, but I've caught myself using ampharos on multiple occasions because of type coverage rule and first few routes reasoning. Power Gem, Discharge, Signal Beam, too useful. So is Groundmove-fightingmove-rockmove-darkmove, but that comes on a ton of mon.

I mean, Pokémon is hardly the only JRPG to have problems making status and buff/debuff moves not either complete shit or gamebreaking so that's one thing I can't just chalk up to GF's laziness, but still, it could use some tweaking.

Pretty much the only time they come in handy are when you're facing a gym while underleveled, but I'll tell you it does feel good when you keikaku them to death.
>leader's mon is too strong for even your best super effective mon to take down before getting KO'd
>can one shot him with a shit ton of debuffs but are too slow to get the first move
>mons give their lives debuff spamming and stalling for poison to get him down low enough
>switch in super effective mon just before he full restores
>your last distraction mon dies valiantly just as the poison puts that fucker into "better use a full restore" mode
>get free turn to one shot him with super effective mon standing amongst the fallen bodies of his brethren

I'm not OP, so I've never played that way. Just saying the idea that being an adult with limited free time means you have to play everything efficiently to get through it faster is kinda silly to me. I like to just play at my own pace, a little at a time, myself.
