And if you consider the superficial details and textures, like the change in the arms over Squirtle, to be basic designs elements (which they are not because they're awfully specific), then to keep those what you'd end up with for the final evo is pretty much a giant Squirtle with some feathers. If that's what you believe was going to be the alternative evo, I'm fucking happy they went for Blastoise.
