What makes good fakemon good and bad fakemon bad for you?

I've decided to start making my own now that I feel I have some tiny amount of competence in design unlike when I last designed a pokemon at age 9

Give me any tips you have/things to avoid. Thanks in advance

Don't just draw a thing and say "here it is". Make it stand out. Fill a niche no other Pokemon fills. Use a typing no one's used before. Give it stats and an ability that make me want to use it, not just a pretty picture that makes me say "Oh, that's nice." and move on.
