You will see a lot of people fighting over which one of those is better and which one is shit, but the fact is that is the list of games /vp/ is always picking their favorites from and trying to put them on the top.
Also, if you want to give Kanto (the first region) another chance, but find RB to be too outdated for you, you have the remakes FRLG.
You should also know something about gen5 (BW and BW2), since it tries to do some different things (and as a result it's probably one of the most polarizing generations):
First of all, have in mind that they tried to make a new, fresh experience in BW by using only new pokemon during the main game, so you won't find familiar pokemon in these ones. And in my opinion, save for plant and bug types the early designs are a bit weak until the midgame.
BW2 on the other hand uses older mons too.
Second; while Gamefreak tends to make a third enhanced versions of the first 2 games of each generation which are the ones should play from each region (Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, USUM), this time BW2 are proper chronological sequels that follow the events of BW, so if you're interested in that generation you might want to play BW before BW2 (unless you don't like the only new mons thing).
Anyway, if you don't know which one to choose from that list, I agree more or less with what
