How does it feel to Catch 'em All?

I've just finished catching 'em all in Gen 1, and doing a celebratory run of the E4 and well, I don't really feel anything. There's no sense of pride or accomplishment, I just feel like I've finished a grind. Nothing more, nothing less. Is this normal? Truth be told, I think that I had more fun experimenting with the Mew glitch on my spare cart than I ever had on the catch 'em all run. Will I feel any different when I do Gen 2?

No, you won't.
Catching 'em all is only useful if you're actially going to do something with it, like if you're planning to breed a lot and would like to have the entire dex at the ready, or if you want to reap the benefits of the shiny charm, or just to transfer it up to whichever next gen.

Here's a secret: completing the dex in gen6 or 7 is much easier compared to gen1 despite the fact there's more: You have the GTS and wonder trade, blazing-fast breeding and easy places to train, not to mention the exp share and amie boosts. Besides, to complete the dex in gen6 you only need two games, as opposed to the three including console side-games you needed in gen3.

Felt real neat in Gen 5 and Gen 7, at least for the regional dex.
Gen 5 gave the prize of the Nature Preserve (which has a Shiny Haxorus in it) and Gen 7 gives out the Shiny Charm for the Alola dex, and a cute Nurse Joy outfit. A good, tangible prize in both that sees use, whether it be a new area and a special Pokemon, or a customization item to wear. The shiny charm's neat too, but not as much of a noticeable difference if you don't play a LOT. Essentially it felt good because I could use the reward and liked working towards it, rather than just the certificate, which doesn't do much for me.

Technically you also got Johto starter in Emerald for finishing Hoenn Dex, though that's less impressive in that you could get these with Orre games with much less effort (assuming you had the games and GBA-GCN cable)

In prior gens the main reward was the certificate.
In Gen 5 and 6 completing the National dex also gives the Shiny Charm. In Gen 7 the Regional dex gives the charm.
To me the regional dex prizes of 5 and 7 are the most worthwhile and felt the most rewarding to get. As a note, the Nature Preserve and the Nurse Joy outfit are only in BW2 and USUM respectively.
