In PSA 10 condition, this card is extremely collectible and is worth much much much more than if it's out of the case and ungraded.
If he kept it as PSA 10, in the future this card would be worth hundreds of dollars. (even currently, in PSA 10 condition it is worth over 100 dollars.) By taking it out of it's case, it has gone down to maybe 30 dollars value.
