i heard about PTU, PTA and even Pokerole but haven't really tried them myself.

opinions and experiences are greatly appreciated.

I've ran both PTU and Pokerole and honestly Pokerole is 10x better. It needs some houseruling in my experience but at least the base game actually feels like Pokemon for the most part and the parts that don't are very easy to change. The creators of the game are also much more active in my experience and there's a new version coming out sometime this fall. It also supports trainerless play which is a big plus IMO because mystery dungeon is comfy.

I see. I gave both PTU and Pokerole a read and found myself struggling with PTU halfway through. It seemed so bloated.

It's even more bloated to play. There's way too much crunch, and multiclassing is pretty much required. It seems like a game that would only work as a dedicated campaign, although most people would rather play something they already know then go through PTU.

I've never tried Pokerole, but it seems like the far better option that is more focused.

GURPS is the opposite of bloat. All of it's systems are fairly straight forward, all skills behave the same, most disadvantages are either a self control roll or just a modifier, etc.
That isn't to say you could run pokemon with it. You can't run pokemon on anything more complex than storyteller (which is what pokerole uses) while having it stay true to the source material. Even then, it can make even simple systems pretty crunchy by virtue of the all the stuff you have to adapt.

I tried thinking about making a conversion for 5E system coz I didn't really like the one that was already out there. But then trying to adapt all 700+ pokemon to 5E is a struggle.

I run a PTU 1.05 discord for it and it works fairly well in a slower style campaign. I've been using it kind of like an MMO.
