As far as being justifiable as a separate game, both the new features and the story would’ve made more sense if they were pushed as an expansion to regular SM, especially the changes with Lusamine. They could’ve done USUM’s storyline but have it take place AFTER SM, with Necrozma sending Lusamine using cosmos to create portals to come here, and the newly reformed Lusamine choosing to fight along side the player as redemption
