Why filter. If your rival defeats you, you can just grind some levels and take it easy. Really doubt that the majority of casuals dropped the game because of this. Seriously smfh trash thread

I have no idea why thinking back, I must not have been reading shit people were saying in the game
and then this rival battle was difficult with Combusken since Marshtomp would use Mud Shot

i think western RPGS often have set fights/non-respawning monsters rather than infinite grind. the infinity engine games, kotor1+2, da:o, poe.

Here's some examples. If you click on related and look under "VideoGames" you will find even more examples. Obviously some of these still allow you to grind to some degree, but in others it's impossible to grind.

Grinding doesn't really help you in persona and you can't grind endlessly because you run out of SP to heal yourself.
You need to actually learn the game mechanics instead of spamming tackle with your level 90 starter.

No you just fight it a lot. If you fight her five or six times and faint the first pokemon your XP bar goes up enough to overlevel by 1 or 2 and then you can just grind her to death even if it looks hairy sometimes

the game is magnitudes easier if you choose mudkip

no grass gym, no weaknesses, can basically tank anything and strong against half the gyms

I knew a kid who got stuck at Slateport because he couldn't enter the museum nor progress and he was too stupid to figure it out.
On top of that he thought he had to buy an expansion pack he didn't have to progress.
