When the Switch has games like BotW, XC2 and Odyssey in it, I fail to see how people like that exist outside of completely casual non-gamer GOfags who haven't played a video game since Red/Blue/Yellow in their middle school years. Ofc industries have to find a balance between meeting expectations of "casual waves" of consumers and their solid fanbase. Note that Game Freak intentionally copypasted the map for nostalgia purposes. These games are aimed at parents and older adults who have left the franchise after Gen I. If you completely remodel a town or city to the point that the supercasual fanbase cannot recognize what it is, you lose out on that nostalgia.

Game Freak is also a woefully incompetent studio when it comes to graphical power. None of their games ever hit the peak of what their respective systems are capable of. But that's fine. Nobody plays Pokemon for the graphics anyway. It's like people who say they play Mario for the story.

I don't know, man. Gold and Silver have bomb art direction. The use of the gbc's limited color pallet is above and beyond most games on the system. and the monster spritework, while static, is arguably the best in the series.

It looks great, but they could have gone a step further and removed that old clunky battle system. A game in 2018 shouldn't have the same old turn-based system from 20 years ago, they only did that in the first place because of hardware limitations anyways. They need to make the story more involved too. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was a good start, but there were some real misogynist undertones. Those old white guys at Nintendo should take some inspiration from games like The Last of Us and really push video games to the limit as a storytelling medium.

I sold my 3DS after ORAS. Gen 6 and 7 were just awful (I played SM/USUM on Citra). Playing in my phone is just more practical since I always have it with me anyway. And I can do cool stuff like randomized runs! Now I get to use different kantobros earlier, isn't that cool?
