It walks through walls in PMD, so its devs certainly think it SHOULD be Dark/Ghost.

I agree it ought to b Psychic/Fairy. Can't get rid of Psychic because dreams are a mental thing, but consider that Cresselia is supposed to be the force that BEATS Darkrai. It's supposed to be the remedy of Darkrai's nightmares. It's supposed to be Darkrai's foil. But Psychic is WEAK to Dark, so Fairy would be perfect for it.

Plus, Lunala didn't utilize that whole "Fairy Type = moon" thing, so why not let Cresselia do it?

Jirachi had psychic abilities in its movie (it was shown being able to transport things from one place to another via its wishes). Psychic-type is also commonly associated with celestial bodies and objects, and the Pokemon Lunatone and Solrock debuted in the same generation as it.

Jirachi doesn't have any Fairy-like characteristic (mischievous, cute, associated with moon).

Jirachi is Steel-type because Game Freak classified comets under Steel-type. Jirachi is based on a comet/shooting star. Metagross' Meteor Mash was originally named Comet Punch in the original.
