Both turtles and tortoises are refered as "tartarugas", with the turtles being the "tartarugas aquáticas" (aquatic turtles) and the tortoises being the "tartarugas terrestres" (land turtles). There's one species called the "jabuti" (redfoot tortoise) that people often mistake for being the only land testudine, though, even though all turtles and tortoises are tartarugas. But it's different in the English language, all land testudines are tortoises and all water testudines are turtles, with some also being called terrapins.
