Dinosaurs however are not related to frogs and toads, and none of the three have external ears. Dinosaur defines every animal descending from the common ancestor of dinosauria, which therefore includes birds, about as far from frogs as you can get among vertebrates.
It's not a huge stretch to imagine that Venusaur is based on a toad, with dinosaur implements, the same way dinosaurs tended to influence all kinds of monsters from Alien to Godzilla, nothing in particular that is recognizable as a dinosaur.
