Shit choices. Fire sucks in gen 1 and Arcanine's movepool is dismal, while Dragonite takes the entire game to get good. Also both are in the slowest exp group. Exeggutor is also in the slow exp group, but at least it's Psychic type and powerful as shit.

Marowak and Slowbro could be swapped for Dugtrio or Starmie depending on your tastes. Tauros is kind of a free choice you can swap with a favorite you have.

It says regular playthrough. Safari Zone rares and a mon that won't even be at it's final stage when you beat the game are not the best.

The core of Blastoise + Nidoking is a good start thanks to their type synergy. Pick up Spearow early then transistion to Dodrio mid-game and any Electric Type later on for the water routes/Lorelei/Gyarados and you have a very strong team.
Early: Spearow wrecks Virdian Forest and beats Blue's Bulbasaur
Brock: Squirtle wins
Misty: Wartortle wins (Mega Punch spam)
Surge: Nidoking wins (Dig TM)
Erika: Dodrio wins
Koga: Nidoking wins
Sabrina: Physical attacks like Mega Punch or Drill Peck destroy her low defense mons
Blaine: Blastoise wins
Giovanni: Blastoise wins
Lorelei: Electabuzz wins
Bruno: Dodrio beats the fighters, Blastoise beats the rocks
Agatha: Nidoking wins. Electabuzz for Golbat
Lance: Blastoise wins (Blizzard), Electabuzz for Gyarados
Blue: Blastoise beats Rhydon/Arcanine/Pidgeot, Nidoking beats Arcanine, Electabuzz beats Pidgeot/Gyarados. Dodrio beats Venusaur. Physical attacks beat Alakazam.

I also think it's worth mentioning if you want to give Body Slam to Blastoise or someone else Dodrio can use Tri Attack for a good Normal STAB.

Oh yeah that sucks lol. Sandshrew is the better option then since you can pick it up right before you get Dig, gets Slash very early for crit hax and evolves early too.
The rare encounter Dugtrio is also extremely good for the Ground slot thanks to natural Dig.

Starter or Nidoking/Nidoqueen solorun is objectively the most efficient playthrough.

If you want the whole team then:
Blastoise, Nidoking/Nidoqueen, Alakazam, Articuno, Zapdos. The last one can be Dugtrio since it's overpowered when you catch it.

Also, I have no fucking idea why are you listing Arcanine. It lacks good STAB for majority of the game, guys.
