Correct wording is:
Bulbasaur's design is inspired by frogs, lizards and baby turtles.

Also the suffix saur does directly relate to lizards etc. I mean technically it would be a dinosaur if it's large size and if it's plant is based on something prehistoric.

It can be both very easily. You'd be a complete retard to deny either argument so...

Are you stupid? He's mentioning the animals that inspired the Kanto starters. Frogs (Bulbasaur), lizards (Charmander) and baby turtles (Squirtle).

Let's see without direct context Im guessing the Japanese name is supposed to either be something we can't understand properly as westerners or it's literally as simple as "strange plant monster" assuming that seed is replacing bulb. The names aren't actually that different when given context. On one hand we have a bulb on the other we have a seed. Not much difference there to convey that it's a plant in the early stages tbqh. Then there's the other half, the suffix saur and the "mysterious" part. Here's the thing, saur is a pretty broad suffix and itlooking like a toador lizard, even dinosaur is a mystery in itself. So really you could say that both names mean exactly the same thing.

Sapling/seed and unidentifiable species. But the word saur gives us deeper insight to seeing what inspired the design even if you can't obviously see it clearly (it's sad that an 8 year old can make.the connection without needing to be guided but you can't).

As for the Squirtle thing, not all fingers are thumbs.

then how come we didn't get Poliwag -> Bulbasaur -> Venusaur as an evolution line? there was already a tadpole pokemon and they had to make tons of cuts. would have made sense to just merge them with the poliwag line if bulbasaur is a frog
