It's terrible along with the art style and pacing.Also, it amazes me that people enjoy this low level series. I wish we had XY&Z back or the quality. SUMO fans are delusional...

Anybody who judges an animation by how goofy the frames look out of context don't have any opinion of value. I agree that it's important for the frames to maintain a sort of integrity, but there was a jarring stiffness to every character's movement in XY that you would have to be hard pressed to deny. This issue isn't something exclusive to the XY series. It's been like this since the animation team switched to digital, and considering this is a 100+ episode series, it's pretty much a given that the show would have bad animation.

TL;DR: yes. SM has bad animation. So does XY, BW, and most of the anime.

That would be to say that quality can't exist in something that is either long running (which where is the qualifier for how long does it need to run before the quality no longer exists), or that nothing has quality that cannot be finished. That is to say, it's everlasting, therefore it can't have quality. I don't think either statements are true, but I do think you can't maintain consistency with something that lasts too long. Consistency is an element of quality, but it isn't the only element of quality. As for where I think that limit exists, I don't think there is a certain limit on it, since it is possible to have never had consistency to start with, or even to start having consistency, but lose it at any future point after that, even immediately after it.

We're not talking about some mythical thousand-episode perfect anime. We're talking about a 22-minute commercial series. There might have been some quality and effort in the first season or so, but to think that the anime is still off the same quality as it once was is downright loyalist drivel.

It's well animated, has beautiful BGs and is easily the most best written of the Pokemon animes except during Shudo's time.
I only see bored, butthurt XYZ frogposters continue to rail on it. The human artstyle isn't great, but the Pokemon look normal and it grows on you.

SM's artstyle is okay because it's not trying to be a high-stakes, action fueled shonen series like XY was. In fact, only XY tried to be that. The OS was very wacky and the art style was just what was popular at the time. It was only in BW that they tried experimenting a bit with the art changes and the story/characters. Ash never featured much growth from Kanto to Sinnoh, and he was a very bland character relative to his companions (except Tracey obviously). BW and XY are kinda opposites in how they try to expand Ash and the setting in different areas that pokemon already is. The first attempt was to make it more "funny" and kid oriented, whereas for XY they focused more on the battles/action and character development. As SM came around they probably realized that there's only so much you can do with the already established pokemon formula, and ditched it entirely even though you could still make parallels in the games with each trial kinda equaling a gym battle. These directing choices are reflected in the art style too, as BW and XY have very similar artistic elements. SM's art style looks different because it is essentially a different show.
