as opposed to inventing a "for girls" activity for her and all following female friends to be relegated to and Ash should have been a mentor to her, because he's been around the block enough to feasibly be able to show her the ropes. That isn't to say that the character should be retired, necessarily, but that he shouldn't be the idiot kid who has to learn everything as the audience surrogate when he's got so much past experience.
