Actually they just allow SM/USUM ones. But yeah I fucking loathe their dumb ways of controlling the metagame on the first game of the gen via regional icons and no tutor moves, only to have them added later and still have the limitations on. Granted they might have tried to limit the hacked mons entering from past gens but at this point the 3DS is rife with those so again, no point.

This is one of the most appealing things about Battle Spot. Gens 1-5 are a big mess of obscure event moves and other exclusives back when GF cared a lot less about competitive. Free battle allows transfers anyway if you really want to use old stuff.

VGC only allowing the current gen however is a bad thing since that means constantly re-breeding everything each gen, and I think that turns people off.

But they don't have to restrict Pokemon being born in the current gen in order to enforce the rules. They could allow mons born in gen 6 but just ban the moves/abilities that they can only get in that gen.

I know they do it because it's simple. But like I said I think some players feel turned off from VGC since they have to breed/catch everything fresh every for each gen, and it's probably in GF's best interest to acknowledge that as a problem and change it. It's not like a message popping up telling you your PuP Kankaskhan isn't legal since it's a gen 6 move would be anything complicated for new players.

It's about stopping power creed. Look at things like Power Up Punch Mega Kangaskhan or Stealth Rock as a TM. By limiting pokemon to current gens only it means they don't have to balance around 5 gens of TMs and giveaways, and can also spot-nerf something if it turns out to be too powerful.

It becomes literal work when you have to keep doing it over and over again. Only worse because at least if you're, say, stocking shelves every day there is a valid reason to have to repeat that work.
