There's relatively little to do with pokemon in his comic outside of the pikachu hybrids and psychic powers working with pokemon mechanics. He draws a lot more "inspiration" from the sanic half

Because Chris is a manchild and buys ANYTHING with Nintendo or Sega's name on it. In the late 90s, there was a huge marketing push for Pokemon and Chris hopped right on. It also helped that Pokemon is cute and colorful.

There's no secret behind it, it's not that these series are extra autistic or something. Pretty much everyone plays these games when they're kids, but due to the nature of autism these ones don't grow up and move onto other things like normal people do.
