Extremely popular request everywhere except in Japan (and even then, there's a small group there who requested Ridley since the Brawl days) and a major Nintendo villain. He was always inevitable.
>Snake
Was literally in Brawl. His exclusion was most likely just a licensing issue with Konami, but they got it cleared up in Ultimate.
>Simon
If Snake is coming, so is the face of the historied Castlevania franchise. The series had a large impact on Sakurai's childhood alongside Legend of Zelda, so Simon's inclusion would only seem natural.
>Ice Climbers
Sakurai wanted them in Sm4sh. Of course they're back.
>No cuts from Sm4sh
Sakurai knows that fans would be disappointed by cuts, so he cut exactly nobody.
>Ridley being announced at E3
E3 is a western-centric conference, so of course Ridley would be announced there. There's no better time for him to be announced.
