Friend Balls, no, but they absolutely can and do track many other things which are sent to the Global Link every time you sync. How do you think they did the missions?
A lot of things are tracked and have been since Gen 5.
You don't think the Global Link is just some fun extra do you? It's to get stats on who people are (Gen 5 essentially had surveys you fill out for a reason - the stats like gender etc. were tracked and displayed on the Global Link) and what they're doing with the games.
They literally have the ability to ban based on many things being changed right at their fingertips, they're just too lazy to make use of it.
