>>36288760Burnout's probably one of the best explanations I can think of myself.
Think about it, this is a franchise that's had a major release almost every single year since its inception, and has went on the mindset of being a cashgrab franchise ever since Red/Green were a smash hit in Japan and they spent a gargantuan chunk of their success on marketing the hell out of the international release (to astounding success that can never be recreated due to the extremely unique circumstances of that day and age) to see how it plays out from there.
We can't even get gap years to take a break anymore because the money refuses to stop rolling in regardless of any effort (or lack of) put into the games, hence the existence of LGPE; a cashgrab designed to be filler for the 2019 games while simultaneously targeting very young children and people who haven't touched the franchise since Gen 1 or GO (Pre-Gen 2-3 Pokemon) at the expense of alienating veterans and hardcore fans, simply because the former two audiences are a larger and more profitable market.
GameFreak themselves are just as burnt out as we are, given their apparent lack of creative drive, effort or passion in these newer titles, but they've forced themselves into a corner because they can't do anything other than Pokemon because it'd be a waste of time, money and effort as no one would notice those games like they notice them on the same scale as Pokemon simply because it's not Pokemon, taking into consideration a rare few non-Pokemon games like Drill Dozer, Giga Wrecker or Tembo.
Lastly, while one might think they could get some fresh new talent in their younger years to help out with anything beyond incredibly basic tasks, that's simply not how Japan functions due to their "respect your elders" culture and the belief that one's successor must be pampered and prepared to be identical their predecessor, hence why Ohmori's basically Masuda.
tl;dr, GF and fans all need a break, but the money is too good to pass.
