>>36286356Probably because the 4Kids dub started to stick closer to the Japanese script when Johto rolled around rather than putting eye-rolling puns like "You've been pun-ished" and "That was quite a ta-le" in like they did early in Kanto: there's also still plenty of funny stuff from the dub in Johto like "I'm a flaming Moltres" or "I'll use my trusty frying pan as a drying pan" among various other meme-worthy gems.
Early Kanto is no doubt the worst of the 4Kids dub in OS or AG, you can tell the VAs were still settling into their roles, the music changes were as heavy as they'd get in their last season (though still not as many as TPCi would make in XY and SM to this day), and the scripts were awkward at first imo. I'll still watch Early Kanto over anything TPCi did from Battle Frontier to Alola/SM in the dub, but it's important to note that they were still not into the swing of things until mid Kanto.
The English dub's last decent Series was Hoenn aka early portion of AG, imo: when I say decent, I mean, it is capable of being watched without cringing most of the time (key word being most of the time, they're still dumb visual edits like with OS). Once TPCi replaces almost all the voice acting staff & writing staff, the Pokemon dub goes downhill- maybe late DP to early BW is tolerable again, but things start going downhill again mid-way into BW and that leads to the train-wreck that is the dub for the last 5+ years since XY began.
