There was actually a rule in one of the early guidebooks that explicitly stated that the plural form of ALL Pokemon names was the same as the singular form.

Related, I'm pretty sure in episode one Ash says "Spearows" though that one is almost certainly before the rule had been implemented.

Nintendo has a similar stipulation with their systems.

You don't say "Game Boys", you say "Game Boy units" or "Game Boy systems."

You don't say "Nintendo Switches," you say "Nintendo Switch platforms" or "Nintendo Switch consoles" or anything on those lines. You have the pluralize the word proceeding the word rather than the word itself.

Plural of Pokemon is Pokemon, same applies to all Pokemon species. I'm pretty sure some NPCs state this in the games.

It's because of the way of how the Japanese language works, they rarely specify if a word is singular or plural, it is mostly understood through context.

It is mostly a reflection of how the Japanese do not have plurals. All nouns are the same regardless of whether you're speaking of one or more of them. There is no context for plurals, either. It sounds exactly the same as if you are speaking about one of something. You would have to know it's talking about more than one of something beforehand. As for guidebooks, the only one I know does not have this listed as a stipulation, but I do know that it exists in all Pokemon related media.
