When the trend started to fade during gen2, the normalfag hordes did what they've always done in every single medium: jump into the next big thing. Curious that said behavior has always existed since childhood, I personally thought it was only an adult thing.
Anyway, these aren't the people who actually liked Pokemon for what it was, and continued faithful to the series regardless of the lows and the highs. Sometimes even skipping a generation or two, but coming back to the series nonetheless.
