Canonically, when Shellder bites into Slowpoke, it injects poison into it.

For Slowbro, the poison makes it so dumb that it can't feel pain (or is too slow to feel pain).

For Slowking, it does the opposite and makes him really smart.

Mega Slowbro is a really smart design.

Slowbro is already supposed to take hits better from Shellder's poisons but the mega evolution makes it so that the Shellder literally becomes armor. The main boost in stats go to defense, where Mega Slowbro has a huge defense of 180, the same as Cloyster. Also Slowbro loses that dopey smile because it's so slow that it's only just noticing that something is on its tail.

That's interesting. Personally, I like to think that slowpoke has untapped absurd mental power, since it's said to always be lost in though, kind of like an aloof genius.

The mega design for Slowking will be tricky, I agree. I really want Slowking to not have a useless ability with his mega evolution. I hope he gets Magic Guard or some sort of auto Trick Room ability. Something that'll help him out.
