You would be able to replace the ability of your Pokémon with the ability on the TM. You could give a Shedinja Sturdy, or something like that. What do you think?

I would prefer more regular possible abilities for every Pokemon with Ability Capsule being also to change them any time you want.
+maybe 1 special ability that a Pokemon always have, like Levitate for Magnemite, Berry Mixing (for Berry Juice) for Shuckle and maybe more field abilities

I assume they mean most would have very limited learn pools, otherwise it would be a broken clusterfuck like almost any ability. But honestly it would be very difficult to come up with even just 20 abilities and their distributions and keep the meta intact

How could we implement this in a way that doesn't seem retarded romhack tier?
At first I was thinking a personal trainer npc, but that would make more sense as a daycare alternative.

There, a list of the 20 most inocuous abilities I could think of. I'm not going to look at 807 mons to write down the distribution lists for each, but it should be safe as long as gamefreak-level of retarded decisions (like having lando learn suction cups or natural cure just because) aren't applied.

The Ability TMs would probably be found along the overworld, where most TMs are found.

There would be an NPC that changes the Ability of your Pokémon to the natural Ability of that Pokémon before it was TM'd.

Just make abilities and stats apparent from wild Pokemon battles. Add a function called a Pokedex Scan that gets you the basic info on the Pokemon species, tells you the stats of the encountered Pokemon and it's ability, but eats a turn on use. This would be an actual beneficial game mechanic though, so GF will never implement it.

Because as you worded it, that is letting pokemon have multiple abilities. Not changing from one to another one.

The idea is they can only have one, but change with tms.
What you described is having more than one.
The key difference is having multiple at once.

Multiple abilities MIGHT be broken, but more than just the usual 2 abilities + hidden might actually be good, because it'll allow a lot of things and damn would it be beneficial to the meta (I think metas with a big selection of mons is good and especially fun to play)

Yaknow, I never understand the TM/HMs. I get they're discs, but what are you doing with them? Are you having your Pokemon sit through a video lecture of how to use an attack? Or are you shoving the disc up their ass and it inserts into a cd-rom, where your Pokemon can hold up to 4 CDs like old stereos used to?
