Oh sure, the battle system will get more complex, but under Game Freak the postgame will evaporate. YW3 had more content than all the 3DS Pokémon games combined.

It's faded dramatically from its heyday of 2014/2015; its game sales are way down, its merchandise sales are way way down, its box office receipts are way down, its anime ratings have fallen off the face of the Earth.

And that's all in its most relevant country, if not the only country it's really relevant today. In the West it's a non-starter now. Sorry if facts sadden you.

Context is important. YW is a franchise made around videogames that hasn't released a main game since 2016, yet it's still doing pretty good in a market saturated with decades-long franchises. Look at that chart, the only ones surpassing it in 2017 are long running tv series that were airing at the time (their games being secondary to the tv series). The next YW main game is coming later this year with the jump to home consoles and that's when things are going to get interesting.
