Memes aside this is the best choice. Incredible ranged moves with Energy Ball/Sludge Bomb and Giga Drain means you rarely get into serious HP trouble. Bulbasaur with a Mudkip partner is practically unstoppable in postgame, so much type coverage

One of the reasons of why I love Grass type is because the HP restoring moves.
Giga Drain is ultimately my favorite move. nothing better than dealing damage and healing self at the same time. Leech Seed is also good with Sleep Powder and at whatever walls you like Toxapex and Chansey.

Bulbasaur. It has a really good face for portraits and access to extremely strong moves (Sleep Powder, Giga Drain and Bullet Seed to name a few). Additionally, in Rescue Team, it gains massive IQ boosts thanks to secondary typing.

Bulbasaur+Charmander duo is very strong actually. They cover a lot of their weaknesses and Smokescreen+Sleep Powder combo is plain unfair against bosses.

Used it as a partner in my first Sky playthrough few months ago (mainly due to cute reaction faces). It actually hits like a truck. Discharge is especially good.
