Considering Ultimate started development almost immediately after Sm4sh's DLC wrapped up, I'm not surprised given that Gen 7 wasn't a public thing at the time, and with Gen 8 on the horizon it makes more sense to wait until then and release a Gen 8 Shillmon as DLC.

Truth is, nothing from gen 7 really stands out. The Pokemon are meh, the locations are meh, everything is meh. Everything was incredibly forgettable. Nothing from gen 7 really deserves a spot imho, specially seeing the direction ultimate is taking. I don't think they'll add just for the sake of adding.

dont agree about everything about gen 7 being forgettable entirely but this is the unfortunate truth. smash ultimate is really a game for the fans and what they want. not to promote nintendo things. not to shill the newest games. just putting in what fans know they want to see.
i think decidueye or incineroar COULD happen, but implying a gen 7 mon WILL UNDOUBTABLY HAVE TO HAPPEN is absurd at this point. especially since we got squirtle, ivysaur and pichu back which are, for better or for worse, all more popular than any gen 7 pokemon, except maybe mimikyu which is already a pokeball pokemon.

I can't agree more. Most of the Pokemon in Smash more or less fill a niche that another fighter already has. Pi(ka)chu, Ivysaur, Squrtle, and Mewtwo are the only playable smash fighters that brought anything original to the table the rest are either rehashes or existing fighters or just there to fill a niche.

A Battle Tree transforming stage in the vein of the Pokemon Stadium stages would have been perfect, but they were more focused on revamping past stages this time around.

Imagine a stage that follows the battle facilities. You start on a platform that flies into a giant battle tower and into a battle room, the floor slides away to reveal the train, you ride it for a bit to get to the maison, then shoot up from the maison into the tree, you get to the drop of the tree and it bounces your platform back to the tower.

i wanted to say alola photo club green room stage that cycles through all the special region specific areas you can unlock in the alola photo club, but then i remembered spear pillar and lumiose city are both stages in smash ultimate already
...so just put an alola photo club green room stage that just stays an empty green room
