So, is her name officially "Selene" now? Chicken-chan / Moon is no more? This was in the latest Pokemon Center email. What do you guys think?

It made sense , Except for gen1 protag and all pokespe's counterpart no one is called by their game's name.

Amerifats have no sense of aesthetics when it comes personal names. They think that naming their daughter after their neighbor's surname sounds cool, but in reality it's pathetic.

Nope. Many countries have various regulations in this aspect, especially those that care about their language and don't want it to be littered with some pleb-made neologisms (that's how "modern" Americunt names work - they're just meaningless clusters of sounds that someone thought sound cool).

Iceland in particular has extremely heavy regulations on what you're allowed to name a child, with an existing list of approved names you have to use. Immigrants are also legally required to changed their name to an approved Icelandic one.

Show me one piece of official or licensed merchandise that isn't the prerelease demo that references "Elio".
The prereleases are known to have beta names that reference the game titles, but ultimately don't become the official names. Calem, Serena, Brendan, and May were Xavier, Yvonne, Orlando, and Anna in prerelease media.
I think Selene and Elio were prerelease names, and Selene making it to licensed merch is a decent case to expect Elio is the official name now, but until I see it on a box I don't buy it.

Keep using "Sun", then. Even though it was used literally nowhere (manga =/= games) and doesn't fit with "Selene" at all. Elio at least has some logic behind it.
