Why do some people think that the final version of Kingdra is better than the beta version? The beta version is cool as fuck and the final version is a generic sea horse.

I loved Seadra, mostly because of the shape of the head, the snout, the edgy fins and the scales on its belly. Kingdra loses more elements than Beta-Kingdra, I'd rather have the beta, but we have Kingdra now with its terrible stats, fine I guess.

Beta Kingdra kind of looks like a Digimon. I don't mean it the "I don't like the design so it's a Digimon" way, I mean it actually looks like it'd fit into the Digimon series pretty snugly as a champion level or something

The only other (viable) Water/Poisons are Tentacruel, Qwilfish, and Toxipex, all of which would have completely different niches than an eviolite water/poison seadra would have. It's not like this is some super abundant typing.

As cool as it was having a look at the beta version of the game and wonder about what could have been, I have to admit that Im not a huge fan of most the scrapped designs.

That said its not really saying much considering how bad the final gen 2 pokemon look aswell, it has easily the worst designs along with gen6/7 but it's not like the betamons would have done enough to fix it.

I don't think they're unrelated at all, just don't look like their pre-evos. Personally, lines that look nothing like each other while clearly being related are my favourites lines. Then again, I'm actually not the Anon who brought it up so I don't really know what their criteria is.

i would have preferred it becoming an actua dragon like the beta, but i do like lots of kingdra's design elements more. i'd have gone for a combination of their features, something like the beta but with a head shape more like kingdra, long traily whiskers to match the antlers and wing/fins, and something a little more interesting than either of their belly scales, which look nicer on seadra.

I think Kingdra looks a lot less threatening than Seadra.

Specially for gen 2 when dragon was meant to be more of a really rare special type(its literally the only dragon type besides dragonite). They pretty much forced Clair's ace to be a gay seahorse with flowy ornaments

I'm with >>36324600

Dragalge pulls off the seadragon motif a lot better anyway and still manages to look threatening.

yeah, agreeing with this. it doesn't even really feel like a progression, putting it side by side with seadra, they feel more equivalent in detail and ferocity. they could be split evos of horsea easily. and yeah, dragalge accomplishes what it set out to do much better. would definitely not have minded seadra evolving into an actual dragon, or even a hippocampus or unicorn like creature.

Seadra already did what the beta design does, be a seahorse that dragons.

Terrible stats? Okay, Kingdra's stats don't blow you away but they certainly can get the job done. Remember, Kingdra hasn't been powercreep all the way back form Gen 2. It has 75/95/95 in defenses which is great with only 2 weakness. Plus a 85 speed with its Swift Swim ability. That's a pretty solid stat line. All Kingdra needs is a Mega Evolution and it'll be completely deadly.

Well, I expected to follow Seadra's line, that is more Def and SpAtk over Atk and SpDef, Kingdra and Seadra share the same 95 Def and SpAtk and it's quite a shame, it could have been better.
