Dragon Ball literally went to shit after Goku became older.
Z had its moment, but it was too draggy (50 chapter before Goku fights the bad guy) and had a lot of annoying characters.

Dragon Ball losts its "Adventures" charm too, and became a recycled meme:
1- New bad guy
2- Goku and friends couldn't defeat him
3- let's make 100 episodes of Goku and friends training while bad guy killing people
4- Goku or friends die
5- Goku or friends revived
6- Goku or Gohan fights and win
7- New bad guy
8- repeat steps 2 - 7

This is basically Dragon Ball Z.
