You caught Lugia in Gold or Crystal? Congrats you can never get Aeroblast ever and your strongest possible flying STAB is fucking Gust. You caught Ho-Oh in Silver or Crystal? Sorry, no Sacred Fire for you (although Fire Blast is stronger so it's not as crippling)
You caught Celebi in Crystal? Congrats, it can never learn Leech Seed or Recover. Ever. For that matter, if you caught Lugia in Gold or Ho-Oh in Silver, they also cannot ever get Recover.
And the legendary dogs have shit for movepools; Suicune legit could not learn any Ice type moves until Pokemon Crystal put Aurora Beam into the level up pool and made the Ice Beam move tutor, while Raikou couldn't get Thunderbolt until Crystal and had to rely on Thunder until then. (Somehow, Entei did not have this problem in defiance of how GF hated it for the next several generations)
