A lot of this stuff happens because either 1) someone from the company hung onto a random asset for years and years so that one day when enough time had passed that he couldn't get caught he could sell it for big money or 2) some collector got a hold of it, either by theft, from some guy like in 1 who held onto it, or pretty much by accident, and then just kept it in his horde for years, either just to have something so rare only a few people knew about it or because he thought someday when he needed money fast he could sell it off.
