>>36358022It's not that we hate the franchise, it's that we hate the direction it was going.
Look back to the previous generations before we made the jump to 3D, there was a clear drive of passion and effort in an attempt to make a quality game, even if GameFreak can be an incompetent developer.
Gen 2 was an attempt to be the series' ultimate sendoff since it was meant to wrap up at that point originally, and signs of it still stood with their attempt at not only having Johto, but Kanto as well as the final battle being against the first game's protagonist.
Gen 3's development process was similar to Gen 1's, with Masuda worrying about the games not turning out well all the while watching as PokeMania was burning out and interest in the West just wasn't as prevalent anymore. Sure, he lost the masses because you couldn't transfer from Gen 2 to Gen 3, but they tried to make up for it with FRLG.
Gen 4 gave us another large region by utilizing what capabilities the DS and its cartridges had, as well as deciding to revamp moves with the Physical/Special Split, and Morimoto took the helm to create HGSS, which many veterans agree is one of the most definitive works they've ever made (even if they did fail to address some issues) even today.
BW was Masuda's biggest passion project, and you can tell he put in his all, even if there were some controversial decisions, with B2W2 following up with even more effort so they aren't JUST another Upper Version Game.
Compare that to XY, which didn't really try much aside from "hey, we're in 3D now!" and the initial mass modelling and animating for the 649 original Pokemon and the 71 new Pokemon, nevermind their form(e)s and the new Mega Evolutions and made things needlessly easier for the "smartphone audience" that Masuda was suddenly set on pursuing.
ORAS came and went, and didn't have that same drive HGSS did, and mostly pissed people off because of the Battle Frontier Teaser that never went anywhere.
