>>36360541I'm not really sure exactly what you mean, but if you mean what the "definitive" Pokemon media is, it's definitely the games since the game series has been much more consistently popular since its inception.
The anime certainly has its fanbase, in fact I'd say Pokemon is outstanding and unusual in that the anime made to advertise the game has remained so popular over the years. I can't think of any other tie-in anime or TV show that has run as long and continuous as Pokemon.
But in terms of the older internet fandom, the games dwarf the anime. You can go to any Pokemon forum, even right here on /vp/, and the vast majority of discussion is on the games; in fact the anime is mostly limited to a single general simply because separate discussion threads rarely last very long. And this is likely because the anime is aimed solely at the 8-10 demographic whereas the games are meant to appeal to all ages, like Mario. I mean, let's be honest, the anime fandom is on the same level as fandoms for Cartoon Network shows.
If you mean "what is Pokemon actually like?", both official and fan works alike are just extrapolations of the games.

>>36360776What? Why do you think it has to be one single thing? There are different aspects of the series that people are drawn to, just like literally every series in existence.
