Exploration: something you will never experience or understand Alolasperm. I'm just kidding don't take this seriously. I believe Gen. III and Gen. V are Game Freak's most ambitious generations. Gen. III is where Masuda had to prove that Pokemon wasn't just a fad. Hoenn's level design is one of the things that made it stand out from Kanto and Johto.

I love this area

I first saw it as indicated by my pokedex. "Huh, it's telling me I can find Jigglypuff here, but there's no grass, there must be some hidden area I can get to when I can surf"

Finding not just a patch of grass, but an area with several secret base locations and trainers to battle was great

Yo, can we just take a moment to remember how you can hear Pokémon cries in the field in these games in case you need some sort of indication that SOMETHING unfamiliar is on this route? I swear this isn't in the recent titles (except probably the remakes.)

GF only wanted to give people access to west Hoenn until they beat Norman. They made the later routes in West Hoenn connected to Rustboro City because they ran out of room.

This, my first few runs for some reason I always forgot to try and surf there but when I did I was truly amazed. This and the route below Mt Pyre are my favorite Hoenn areas

yeah, i agree. i love the river with all the little wild areas to explore on both sides. it felt like a real natural landscape full of surprises rather than manicured straight lines.
