As cool as the minigames are, they're hardly the focus of the game and playing seriously with rentals is the biggest chore of anything in any Pokemon game and also blatantly unfair given how the RNG cheats.
PBR is also primarily meant for you to upload your Pokemon and battle your friends, though with less of an official focus given that WiFi was a thing. That said it was still the platform for most tournaments.
