But honestly though, giving unique locations to ALL legendaries would feel pretty forced and ham-fisted. It already kind of was in B2W2 and it won't be getting any better.
Hoopa's rings were incredibly lame though since they didn't bother with even saying they belonged to hoopa (nor why was it doing that). In the end they were just skimping out on making unique overworld models for all legendaries (or cutscenes so they could use their battle models).

It only seemed weird in B2W2 because they dedicated Central Park (and the bottom screen for that matter) to reminding you that you're not online, making the region feel squished off into corridors

The issue is Game Freak feeling the need to make every single legendary from previous generations obtainable in recent games. GF should just take a handful of those legends and give them exclusive areas. The rest would be made available through distributions, trading or by migrating them from older games.

Those Hoenn towers in Johto were dumb. And then latios/latias was chilling in Pewter City just because.
After fitting one more generation's worth of legendaries, B2W2 didn't feel forced just because the C-Gear exists.

The portals are not bad ideas, the problem is how lazily they were implemented.
In ORAS they actually had unique locations for every portal legendary (like Cresselia's island, Reshiram's cave, Heatran's dungeon, etc). If only they weren't too lazy to made overworld models for them, the postgame legendary hunt would have been BW2-tier.
In USUM they could have made each legendary appear in unique locations referencing their original dungeons. Like Mewtwo appearing in a copy of the lower floor or Cerulean Cave, Ho-Oh appearing on a copy of Bell Tower's roof, etc. It would have been pure kino. But instead they're just in generic caves along with a bunch of regular mons.

I like the refreshes. Hyper training made balltism more viable on legendaries and so cleaning shit up like getting dive ball Kyogre to be viable is handy to get at the end of a new game instead of making me restarting Sapphire/Emerald, catching it until it's modest because syncronzie doesn't work on legends then, then transfering it all the way up.

I wouldn't have minded it if they combined those two. Give every legendary a dimension that resembles their original catching place, but also have 2 or 3 wild Pokemon appear you could also catch in the original locations. For example, wild Rhydon, Raichu and Ditto in Mewtwo's Cerulean Cave dimension, Rattata and Gastly in Ho-oh\s Bell Tower dimension, etc.

wouldn't hurt them to leave some out though, would be a reasonable way to leave mons out of a cycle given the only bans they run are either non-mythical and non-box legend

Because with the exception of Sapphire and UM, I'm a first version fag, I don't buy both. Prior to UM, the newest game with Kyogre catchable I own is Heart Gold but that requires clearing two regions in a slow gen and clearing out a game with a bunch of events in it that I wouldn't want to delete. As for the ORAS argument, that was prior to hyper training and so I still went for balls that were actually good for catching to reduce time resetting for perfect speed/their used attacking stat and upper tier defenses. IE I caught Virizion in OR in an Ultra ball but replaced it with my UM one in a nest ball. There's also the case with Terrkion where they weren't catchable in Apricon balls until USM and I wanted one in a level ball.

Nectars are easy since they're consumables. Tables, memories and now discs are worse.
"Tallest place" at least should be easier than friggin' magnetic place. And maybe they might give up and fuse it with glaceon's place but GF loves its bloat.

Speaking of bloat, why the fuck do they keep removing bag pockets while they increase the number and categories of circumstantial usable/held items? And in that time we have only had the dumpster that is the "favourite items" pocket twice.

They don't, but when you think about it from the perspective of GameFreak, their idea of postgame is a Battle Tower Clone, a few Legendaries, battling Online and in Upper/Remake Versions, Move Tutors and every other Legendarey that was absent from previous games in that Generation.
By having all those shitty bloat items, they can act as if there's so much more to do beyond the aforementioned things even though it's just collecting the same bullshit you've collected multiple times already.
