If they were always real, the human species wouldn't even exist. At least not as it is. If humans exist, they would've had to have come from pokemon and have the latent abilities of such. Most pokemon have quite a lot of intelligence, though. It would be a mystery to me as to why they couldn't come to create their own society, without humans. Everything else, I don't know.
