Don't actually remember the Stadium animations too well so I'll point towards >XD instead as those games had very nice animations and Vaporeon had the same idle animation (and model for that matter).

It doesn't need to be standing to have good animations. I don't even dislike the official idle because I don't dislike anything about Vaporeon, but the sitting pose is what I think of when I think of Vaporeon because it gave it a touch of personality. Much more personality than standing at the very least..
