Pokemon have slowly been learning how to speak over the corse of the series. In the first games they said random gibberish to emulate their cries, but as the games went on, they began to say their names, and in the latest games you can tell they're trying to learn real English words. There's a Machamp outside the League with its trainer. The trainer mentions becoming champion. And the Machamp says "Champ...ion"
At first I thought it was for gags, but when I noticed what was going on it was a little unsettling.
